Five LEGO Willy Wonka chocolate Easter eggs you may have missed

LEGO Ideas 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory includes a number of tasty Easter eggs, including these five scrumdidilyumptious secrets.

The next upcoming LEGO Ideas set was officially revealed this week in the 2,025-piece shape of  21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The upcoming model will launch next month and brings with it a build based on a winning submission from Italian fan designers Roberto Ceruti and Jody Padulano, collectively known as 2PPL.

As well as a hand-cranked chocolate waterfall, the S.S. Wonkatania ship and plenty of brick-built sweet treats, the LEGO Ideas set is also full of fun Easter eggs for fans of the 1971 live-action Gene wilder film to pick up on.

With that in mind, here’s our list of five dandy candy-coloured secrets that are just waiting to be found and unwrapped within 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

1 – Everlasting Gobstopper

In the fan-favourite movie, Willy Wonka introduces the Golden Ticket winners to a special machine that can create Everlasting Gobstoppers. While the rainbow sweets were relatively small on the big-screen, a giant-sized version of the confectionery can be spotted round the back of the LEGO Ideas build.

2 – Tiny Mike Teavee

When Mike Teavee misuses the Wonkavision teleporter in the movie, he becomes the first kid to literally be transported onto television. That scene is partially recreated in miniature form in 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with a stickered piece showing a shrunken microfigure of the larger Mike Teavee minifigure.

3 – Odd office accessories

Also hidden around the back of the LEGO Ideas build is Willy Wonka’s office, one that’s full of inexplicable half-accessories. Eagle-eyed fans will be able to spot lickable wallpaper, yellow cellophane from the movie’s Golden Egg Room, a bottle from the Fizzy Lifting Drinks room and more surprises.

4 – Male and female Oompa Loompas

In a recent interview with fan media, the LEGO Ideas design team confirmed that the two Oompa Loompa minifigures included in 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory are male and female.

“We do have male and female [Oompa Loompas]. One has eyelashes and one that doesn’t,” said LEGO Ideas designer Crisy Dyment. “In researching the film, they were both male and female actors, so we wanted to make sure we were authentic to that.”

5 – Fan designer nods

In the same interview, the LEGO Ideas design team revealed that a number of nods to the set’s original fan creators have been included in 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. For instance, initials of the members of Roberto and Jody’s families are signed onto the contract in Wonka’s office and in the structure of the waterfall, you’ll find some of their favourite colour combinations of yellow, orange and blue elements.

LEGO Insiders will be able to discover all of 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory's secrets from September 15, with a wider release from September 18. The LEGO Ideas set will be priced at £199.99 in the UK, $219.99 in the US and €219.99 in Europe. To find out more about the upcoming model, be sure to check out our full review right here.
