A LEGO Disney Frozen special has been announced with the original cast reuniting ahead of the third film, and it embraces the nature of LEGO.
Following in the footsteps of 2016's LEGO Frozen Northern Lights special, LEGO Disney Frozen: Operation Puffins has been announced with a trailer, coming later this month. The special will stream on Disney+ on October 24, and follows the events of the first movie.
The story for the special sees Anna and Elsa wanting to start fresh in Arendelle and make the castle feel more comfortable after spending years apart. They struggle to break free of the bounds of tradition, partially thanks to the returning Duke of Weselton, who has other plans via a flock of antagonistic puffins. It's definitely a story that only a LEGO special could tell.
Most notably, the trailer for the special demonstrates that it will embrace the nature of LEGO building and mini-dolls. The puffins can be seen dismantling Arendelle Castle into its individual elements. A train chase later in the trailer shows that Anna and Kristoff can bend at the hips, though notably mini-dolls can only bend in this way in the opposite direction. Still, it's a fun LEGO Easter egg.
The duo also has interchangeable hat and hair elements, raising the question of what other mini-doll parts they can swap in this LEGO universe. Kristoff also reuses the masculine mini-doll body piece first seen in the last LEGO Disney special, despite it not yet existing physically.
The voice cast for this LEGO special will see the return of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Alan Tudyk as their respective characters from the first movie, and they will reunite before their outing in the third Frozen film in 2027.
LEGO Disney Frozen: Operation Puffins will stream on Disney+ on October 24, and there's a lot of other LEGO content to enjoy on the streaming service in partnership with Disney, including the second season of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
