LEGO Marvel fans are confused by some Avengers Tower minifigures

LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower has made history with the most minifigures in a single LEGO set but some of the choices are confusing fans.

The enormous LEGO Marvel build has a stacked cast of minifigures, including predictable favourites like four versions of Tony Stark, two Captain America's, and an array of the original Avengers. There are some more surprising inclusions as well, such as a meta appearance from Kevin Feige, but if you're confused about who any of them are, then we've got a handy guide for you here.

You wouldn't be alone in your confusion, either. Judging from the discussion around the main reddit post for 76269 Avengers Tower, the general consensus is that some minifigures hit the nail on the head perfectly, others are head-scratchers.

One reddit user summed up most people's concerns succinctly, writing: "That selection of [minifigures] is all over the place. Three Iron Men, two Captain America's, [and] a bunch of unnamed soldiers? Feel like they could’ve done more there."

"[In my opinion], this does not hold a candle to the Daily Bugle [minifigure] selection, which only has about [three] kind of random (but still named) civilians," added another reddit user. "I get they were trying to stick to a scene/specific event, but it would’ve been great to throw in some more villains who we have seen at Avengers Tower – final form Ultron and Crossbones for example – rather than nameless goons to pad out the [minifigure] count."

Indeed, the comparison to 76178 Daily Bugle is an obvious one, as the latest enormous LEGO Marvel set with a minifigure cast to rival 76269 Avengers Tower. The Spider-Man homage includes just three unnamed characters, as opposed to 76269 Avengers Tower's six.

In addition, Wong is another inclusion that has confused some, considering that we've never seen the new Sorcerer Supreme at the Avengers Tower. We'll never say no to more Wong, but some fans are describing his inclusion as making "absolutely no sense" over on Twitter.

The main criticisms levelled at the minifigures are that Wong, the Wasp, and the Falcon have never been seen at the Avengers Tower and there are too many Chitauri fleshing out the hefty minifigure count of 31. Of course, LEGO sets are not always 100% accurate in that sense, with designers often including characters that make sense in terms of display possibilities in enormous sets like this despite not technically being canon. In fact, we've even compiled a list of random minifigure inclusions just within LEGO Star Wars – and there are surely many more besides. Nonetheless, some fans offered other suggestions for minifigures that would pack a greater punch.

"I'd cut two Chitauri, one Iron Man, one Cap and one Shield Agent, and add Doctor Strange (so Wong doesn't stand out so much), Stan Lee, pre-Vision body from the cradle (basically vision but silver), Quicksilver, and Ultron," suggested one redditor.

The standout suggestion there is certainly Stan Lee. With Kevin Feige making an appearance as President Marvel, this would also have been a good time to pay homage to the late Marvel Comics creator, especially as he actually was at the Avengers Tower in Avengers: Age of Ultron. As a beloved figure who actually made various cameos in Marvel movies, it would have made perfect sense to see Stan Lee make an appearance – and never say never!

Ultimately, with such a large selection of minifigures, no one is ever going to be entirely happy. What's more, you never know how much say LEGO designers have over minifigure selection when it comes to Disney properties like LEGO Marvel, with Marvel Studios and Disney often needing to give the final say on which characters are included. Even if there's some confusion around the minifigure cast, the build itself is certainly impressive and, with 31 minifigures included, there's sure to be something to tickle your fancy.
