LEGO Ideas 21356 River Steamboat has more limited appeal for the price than other sets, but it's ideal for those with plenty of Disney minifigures.
The biggest LEGO Ideas set in theme launches soon in the form of 21356 River Steamboat, sailing to shelves on April 7 for LEGO Insiders or April 10 for everyone else with a free set-specific gift-with-purchase to accompany it.
As mentioned in our in-depth review, the scale of this set is (mostly) incompatible with minifigures and the proposed compatibility has been eschewed in the final set. The exterior at least works well with minifigures, though, and this should come as great news to LEGO Disney fans with plenty of minifigures to display.
Whether it was intentional or not, 21356 River Steamboat is a LEGO Disney set in disguise, recreating the iconic type of boats that appear at several Disney theme parks. In Disneyland's Fantasmic show, the steamboat is even used as part of the production with several Disney characters waving at guests.
Pair 21356 River Steamboat with various Disney minifigures, including those in 71012 Disney Series 1, 71024 Disney Series 2 and 71038 Disney 100, and you have an amazing Disneyland tribute display. The massive LEGO Ideas model can also serve as a great way to display minifigures overall, using the exterior to its full potential.
The individual arches in 21356 River Steamboat act as a great way to frame your favourite Disney minifigures and there's plenty of room to feature them on the rest of the decks and even on both sides for a coffee table display.
While 21356 River Steamboat is big and accordingly pricey at £289.99 / $329.99 / €329.99 for 4,090 pieces, Disney fans on the fence might just have the perfect excuse to pick it up next month, and don't forget the free Amelia Ticket Booth GWP when you order 21356 River Steamboat between April 7 and 13.
