LEGO Harry Potter set 76447 Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons is actually a Castle set in disguise – no, wait, it’s really an Imperial Fort in disguise.
We’ve already praised LEGO Harry Potter 76447 Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons for its excellent playability and displayability, which are in no small part thanks to a brilliant 2-in-1 design that the set boasts. Alongside this we’ve also highlighted how its castle-based design makes for a perfect recolour project to turn it into a more traditional LEGO Castle set.
It’s such a good set, though, that we can’t stop playing with it, and now we’ve repurposed it once more, this time into an Imperial Fort, acting as a small outpost for a small band of Imperials waiting for the next battle or skirmish to come their way. The side of the main tower may have been blown out before, but it now acts as perfect cover for one of their cannons.
This project took the same base model from 76447 and applied the same recolour approach as with the grey castle project – simply changing everything in tan to white, everything green to dark tan, and everything dark tan to tan, to mimic the lighter palette that Imperial forts through the years of LEGO Pirates have traditionally been based around.
After that, though, has been a little more rebuilding and redesign in places. The walls have had more weathering added to them through the use of sloped bricks, rounded plates and the occasional medium nougat masonry brick, whilst the lower side wall to the main tower has been redone to suggest having been previously blown out by a cannon.
Further changes centre around the natural aspects to the model. The rockwork has been redesigned slightly, while the plantlife has also been switched up. The tree at the foot of the main tower in the Harry Potter and Castle versions has come out here in favour of building some flowered vines around the upper level of the fort instead. This helps inject some more colour into what is otherwise a bright and singular palette.
The finished model looks great in both the folded out and folded up configurations that work so well in 76447, and again highlights the versatility of the original LEGO Harry Potter set so well.
The original LEGO Harry Potter set was provided by the LEGO Group for review purposes.
