Is Plants vs. Zombies vintage enough for a LEGO set yet?

A desk-friendly tribute to Plants vs. Zombies has just shot its way to 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas, but is the video game franchise vintage enough for a LEGO set yet?

The tower defence game first debuted in 2009, which puts it at 17 years old in 2026. (Quick maths.) That’s old enough for a driving licence in the UK, but is it old enough to be immortalised in LEGO bricks? Ideas fan designer DistinguishedCrow will be hoping so, as their 304-piece Peashooter build has just reached the first 2026 review on the crowdsourcing platform.

Billed as ‘a throwback to the early days of Plants vs. Zombies’, the Peashooter’s leaves are articulated by way of a hinge and ball joint, and through shrewd use of trans-clear pieces can be displayed as if it’s shooting a pea. It has as fair a chance of cracking the review stage as any other project, but it would be an atypical pick for the theme for two reasons.

First up is its size: you have to go all the way back to 2018’s 21314 TRON: Legacy for an Ideas set sub-300 pieces that wasn’t a gift-with-purchase or LEGO Insiders reward. And then there’s the subject matter – sitcoms aside, LEGO Ideas usually trades in older licensed properties from the ‘80s and ‘90s. But there are exceptions, such as 21354 Twilight: The Cullen House and 21339 BTS Dynamite, so you never know.

That said, it’s worth mentioning too that this isn’t the first Plants vs. Zombies pitch to reach 10,000 supporters, and there’s one in the second 2025 review right now. If it gets the green light there, the chances of this one making the cut will pretty much evaporate. Regardless, the Peashooter advances to the first LEGO Ideas 2026 review and will now be considered for production as an official LEGO Plants vs. Zombies set by the LEGO Ideas team.
