Five massive LEGO dinosaur skeleton sets we need

With the launch of 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex right around the corner, here are five more huge dino skeletons we want to see.

Fans of massive prehistoric beasts are in for a treat next month, with the imminent arrival of 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex. The LEGO Jurassic Park set launches on March 12 for Insiders members and for everyone else on March 15, measures 105cm in length and 33cm tall, and comes in at a whopping 3,145 pieces.

Interestingly, the head of 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex is also virtually identical to that included in 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull, possibly suggesting that both models may have been designed in tandem.

With the third such release in the fossilised subtheme on its way soon, here’s our list of five more such large brick-built LEGO dinosaur skeletons we want to see added to our collection at some point:

1 – Triceratops

76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull was released on January 1, with the 468-piece set being the first follow-up to 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull. As we noted in our review, the build includes a seemingly-random 2x2 with big ball joint piece, which may be a hint that the model could potentially be attached to the rest of the creature’s skeleton, if it were to ever be released.

2 – Velociraptor

One of the key stars of the Jurassic Park/World series, velociraptors could make for very appealing LEGO creations indeed. The only really issue there would be the possible scale of the pack hunters in relation to 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex, with the beasts being much smaller than the towering tyrant lizard king.

3 – Spinosaurus

The main dinosaur antagonist in Jurassic Park III, the Spinosaurus was instantly recognisable by its finned back and long crocodile-like snout. A skeleton of the beast was destroyed in a battle between a T. rex and the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World, making it an ideal candidate for a potential prehistoric LEGO set.

4 – Pteranodon

Although Pteranodons have popped up in a number of LEGO sets over the years, we’ve yet to see a large-scale brick-built iteration of one of the winged creatures. The teaser trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth has already revealed that Pteranodons will be returning to the movie franchise once again, which could be perfect timing for a LEGO version to take flight.

5 – Alamosaurus

Although maybe not as well-known as the diplodocus or brontosaurus, the alamosaurus would be an essential LEGO dino addition. The reason for that is that a skeleton of the massive beast was seen in the original Jurassic Park’s visitor centre, posed in an epic battle with a T. rex skeleton before the exhibition was later destroyed.

The thought of a LEGO Jurassic Park alamosaurus built at a matching scale to 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex is definitely a very enticing idea, one that would complete a massive recreation of the classic scene from Steve Spielberg’s iconic dino movie.

76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex will be released on March 12 for Insiders members, while everyone else can pick up the LEGO Jurassic Park set for £219.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 from March 15.
