Upcoming LEGO Game Boy might be the new Gringotts

Early copies of the upcoming LEGO Game Boy set suggest that this is going to be another Gringotts situation within the community.

As early copies of 72046 Game Boy start making their way onto shelves ahead of the October 1 launch date, fans are discovering a misaligned print that is hard to ignore once you spot it. Both SpiritualRush9552 and rbalaur shared pictures of their early finds on Reddit, both noting that the 'SOUND' printed tile is misaligned compared to that of the 'DOT MATRIX WITH STEREO' print.

Brickset's early review of 72046 Game Boy features a similarly misaligned print, placing 'SOUND' higher than the rest of the label and creating an unfortunately incorrect visual.

It might remind you of how the stickers in 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition leave an unsightly gap between 'GRINGOT' and 'TS'. Though it can be fixed with some scissors and by placing the stickers close to one another, fans online noted the design either way and weren't impressed with the official result.

The difference with the 72046 Game Boy tile is that it is printed, so it cannot be repositioned or cut to be in the correct spot. Comments on Reddit suggest that this might be intentional, with claims that early copies of the Game Boy from 1989 featured a similar misalignment. This does not appear to be a reference to the full phrase being off-centre in early copies of the Game Boy, as 'SOUND' is noticeably higher than the rest of the text in the LEGO model.

Either way, it's a small flaw in what is otherwise an accurate and functional Nintendo model that has already proven to be a hit with fans worldwide ahead of its October 1 release. 72046 Game Boy will be priced at £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99, and pre-orders for the LEGO Super Mario model are still open.
