Lucasfilm has renewed Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord for a second season before the first even airs, and it’s already starting to feel like a major oversight from the LEGO Star Wars theme.
The LEGO Group has long taken a cautious approach to new Star Wars material, preferring to focus on movies and shows that are already popular or have an existing fanbase. The Mandalorian is a classic case study: 75292 The Razor Crest only debuted a full year after the first season, but this year we’re looking at multiple waves of products based on the show and the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.

By contrast, the first season of Andor only received one set, Star Wars: The Bad Batch spawned just two LEGO sets in total, and the LEGO Star Wars team passed up The Acolyte altogether. Some of those decisions feel astute in hindsight, but if ever a Star Wars property felt like a sure thing, it has to be Maul – Shadow Lord. So where are the LEGO sets?
From The Clone Wars to Rebels, Star Wars’ animated shows have consistently found an audience, and the continued focus on Maul suggests he’s one of the franchise’s characters with the most staying power (ironically, given he originally had the least staying power of any Star Wars villain in 1999). He’s popped up across Clone Wars, Rebels and spin-off movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, and now he has his own TV show in Shadow Lord.

The first two episodes of that series premiere on Disney+ on Monday without a single supporting LEGO Star Wars set in sight, and Lucasfilm is seemingly so confident in its success and popularity that it’s already given the green light to a second season. The trailers for the first season have plenty of material that could inspire LEGO sets, meanwhile, and Darth Maul is a consistent presence among the LEGO Star Wars minifigure line-up.
In short: Maul – Shadow Lord feels like fertile ground for the LEGO Star Wars theme, so its apparent omission from the 2026 portfolio is hard to understand. These decisions are obviously not made in a vacuum within the LEGO Group – Disney and Lucasfilm will have a say too – so the question really falls at the door of both members of this partnership.
If nothing else, though, the show’s early renewal puts it in good stead for receiving a LEGO Star Wars set somewhere down the line (once its popularity is firmly established, assuming that does indeed happen as Lucasfilm clearly expects). And given we only have rumours to go on as far as the summer 2026 LEGO Star Wars wave is concerned, there’s still a small chance we’ll see something for Maul – Shadow Lord later this year.
But with one eye on the timing of LEGO Star Wars’ recent TV show and movie sets – even its sole Andor: Season 2 playset dropped while the show was airing – you’d have thought we’d have heard something about a LEGO Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord set by now…
