The LEGO Group is currently giving away a free retro tin sign with purchases above £250 / $250 / €250, so please own up whichever one of you asked for the top of a biscuit tin.
The LEGO Group prides itself on listening to its customers and making sure that they are heard. That translates into some truly exceptional customer service, some very responsive actions of public relations and some genuine opportunities to influence future releases and promotional items.
A while back there was even a survey on the VIP Rewards Centre specifically about rewards offered through the scheme and preferences over future promotional items, most likely including gift-with-purchases.
We promise, we’re not mad, but which one of you filled that survey in and suggested that the top half of a biscuit tin would be a desirable gift? Because you got your wish, and you and anyone else who has spent a very high £250 / $250 / €250 across LEGO VIP Weekend, or continues to do so this week, will have received in LEGO Stores (or be receiving through the post from LEGO.com) exactly one biscuit tin lid.

Billed as a ‘retro tin’ and modelled on an aged-down, old lead-style sign from back in the day, this gift-with-purchase gives the impression of a unique, authentic piece of LEGO Group history. It looks like it has been unscrewed from the wall of an old red brick house in Billund itself, having witnessed years of amazing creativity and LEGO history.
Yet, it’s not actually that. It’s mass-produced in probably tens of thousands and it is made of an incredibly light tin – exactly the same material that is used for those £3 biscuit tins you get in the supermarket. Except, this is just a flat piece of tin, rather than a whole box you can maybe put LEGO in, and there are certainly no biscuits included.
As far as gifts-with-purchase go, unique ideas can be fantastic, certainly if they strike a chord with the die-hard fans who save up for big shopping events like VIP Weekend and spend a large amount of hard-earned money. The retro tin is most definitely unique as a concept, but in application it is so poorly construed that it’s frankly quite insulting to be offered up as an ‘incentive’ to spend £250 / $250 / €250.
Keep track of the far better Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions set to go live this week and support the work that Brick Fanatics does by purchasing your LEGO through one of our affiliate links – thank you.
