LEGO NINJAGO Legends' best feature continues this year

LEGO NINJAGO Legends is making its grand return later this year with more sets than ever, and its best feature is coming back, too.

Following the launch of LEGO NINJAGO Legends across two sets in 2025, the range will be back this summer with one more model than last time, and with many more exclusive minifigures. While the likes of Jin, Mira and Nate add a level of interest to these sets, the likes of which both 71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon didn't achieve, there's something else in this reveal that caught our eye.

The trio of 71870 The Twin Titan Mechs, 71871 Battle at the Dragon's Blade and 71872 Ultra Dragon Battle maintain the range's signature illustrated box art. The stylised shots of the products exaggerate their features, just as they did last year.

It blends the concept of the black boxes of 18+ sets with a comic-like design that adds a degree of display value to the models. It therefore encourages you not to throw these boxes in the recycling bin once the build is done. The idea for LEGO NINJAGO Legends came from the thought of marketing NINJAGO sets towards a distinctly older audience, as a designer explained last year.

“The idea came from the reception of the [71819] Dragon Stone Shrine [71821] Cole’s Titan Mech,” senior designer Dimitrios Stamatis elaborated to Masters of Brickjitzu. “Because they showed that there’s an appetite for a different type of experience within the NINJAGO community.

“We know there are kids that grow up, and at some point the word ‘toy’ is very childish for them. So we want to keep those people engaged and offer something different you can’t get from the regular line.”

This thought process continued with the box art of the Legends range, helping them differentiate themselves from the theme's standard sets.

“Again, we wanted to service a different aspect of the NINJAGO fandom,” said Dimitrios, “to differentiate from the core offerings to say this is unique, this is a new thing for you. We got ideas from other product lines that focus on display action figures or statues, and how they make their boxes.”

There's another artistic feature of the NINJAGO Legends range confirmed to return in summer 2026, as well. The reveal video showcased the back of the boxes for two of the three sets, revealing that the collection will continue to include exclusive posters. One is not currently confirmed for 71872 Ultra Dragon Battle, but it seems unlikely to be the odd one out.

Two posters were included in 71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon, furthering the display value of these models by providing an awesome backdrop for the two sets. These were both presented in portrait formats, given that their respective sets were vertical in nature.

The next Legends models aren't all quite as tall, though, leaving us to wonder whether or not these new posters will be landscape to better frame the contents of the sets. That's only speculation on our part, but it's great to see the artistic elements of NINJAGO Legends continue in its second wave.

A release date for these three sets has not been confirmed at the time of writing, but 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger is confirmed for June 1. Prices are also not known at the time of writing. Click here to take a closer look at all of the newly-revealed NINJAGO summer 2026 sets.

In the meantime, 71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon are both available now, and we reviewed the latter last year.
