21376 Orange Cat makes LEGO Ideas history, and it's good news for the set's original fan designer, Damian Andres.
LEGO Ideas 21376 Orange Cat makes history as the very first set in the theme to be re-released in a new colour, coming after its predecessor 21349 Tuxedo Cat. This is not just a special moment for LEGO Designer Chris McVeigh, who worked on the set, but also for the original fan designer, Damian Andres.
Chris and his team developed a working version of the cat in its new colour, medium nougat, and presented it to Damian ahead of revealing the set to the wider public.
“This is a very special occasion because it marks the first time LEGO Ideas has offered a colour variation of an existing LEGO Ideas product,” said Chris in an interview with the Ideas team. “21349 Tuxedo Cat has been extremely popular, and many fans have been asking us for cats in different colours.
“Damian was absolutely thrilled to see that his original submission had inspired a second product!”
Notably, Damian will get the same royalties on 21356 Orange Cat as he would for 21349 Tuxedo Cat, with the LEGO Ideas team wanting to respect the fact that it's still inherently his idea, despite the changes it has gone through.
"We wanted to make sure that the fan designer was still honoured and that his design was respected," explained LEGO Ideas Design Manager Jordan Scott while speaking to LEGO Fan Media in Billund. "That's why he's getting the royalty for it, because we haven't changed it too much from the original Tuxedo Cat build that Chris worked on."
LEGO Ideas 21376 Orange Cat is available to pre-order now for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 ahead of its launch on March 1, 2026.
