LEGO Ideas 21363 The Goonies' reveal prompts a comparison between the original proposal and the final model, with one huge change.
Delusion Brick's initial submission for 21363 The Goonies compares favourably to the final design, but there are a few differences for fans of the contest-winning entry to note. From minifigures to the interior, much has stayed the same despite one major change.
Ahead of the launch of 21363 The Goonies next week, here's a look at how the set compares to the original proposal.
Flipping the ship, but staying true to the proposal
The main difference between the final 21363 The Goonies and the initial proposal is easy to spot – the ship now faces the opposite direction, but the interior has been adapted to maintain the original layout. The set is smaller overall as well, but nothing significant has been removed. There are only additions and upgrades.
A different take on the exterior
The exterior of the Interno has been changed in the LEGO Ideas set to use fewer elements overall, with a less pointed bow. An extra interior section is now raised at the front, drastically changing the shape of the ship. The LEGO Ideas model also adds two material sails, on which you can pose a couple of minifigures.
It might still split
Though not confirmed in official material, the splitting function proposed in the original submission may have been maintained in 21363 The Goonies. One of the lifestyle images shows the ship still under construction, with only a Technic pin holding one part of the model to the other. This strongly suggests that 21363 The Goonies will be easier to transport via this function.
Similar scenes, flipped layout
Despite the smaller size, LEGO Ideas 21363 The Goonies has the same number of interior areas as the original proposal. From the Fratellis’ hideaway and basement to Willy’s treasure room, the set only downsizes these vignettes, but they're all still present and accounted for.
Minifigure differences
The other major difference between Delusion Brick's submission and 21363 The Goonies comes in the minifigures. The original project proposed 11 minifigures of Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Mouth, Andy, Stef, Data, Sloth, Jake, Francis and Mama Fratelli. The final LEGO set adds Willy to that list.
Overall, 21363 The Goonies is a smaller and more condensed version of the original project, but with several noteworthy upgrades to entice enthusiasts into a purchase. The LEGO Ideas set launches on November 1 for LEGO Insiders or November 4 widely, and will cost £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99 with an exclusive gift-with-purchase.
