A full wave of LEGO sets under the new LEGO Gaming banner could be on the way, potentially drawing from multiple different video games.
Word of the new theme first emerged last week through a Polish retailer, which rebranded a previously-rumoured LEGO Overwatch model as a ‘LEGO Gaming’ set. That’s since led to speculation that we could be seeing a fully-fledged video game theme, tying together multiple titles that perhaps don’t quite warrant their own individual lines.
Instagram user exabrickslegogo_ now reports that the full LEGO Gaming range could extend to as many as 11 different sets, which leaves a lot of room for the LEGO Group to embrace a huge range of classic and modern video games (here’s a few of our ideas for strong contenders).
According to brickmerge.de, at least two of those rumoured 11 sets will be late additions to the Overwatch theme, which bowed out in 2019 after a third wave of rumoured sets failed to materialise.
While the price comparison site still lists all six of those sets as launching in 2021, exabrickslegogo_ has only pointed to 76980 Null Sector Titan and 76989 as still planned for release. Brickmerge suggests that the latter model will be priced at €79.99 and arrive in 2022, but no other info is available at the moment.
For now, treat any rumours of a full video game theme with caution until confirmed otherwise by the LEGO Group, if only because it almost sounds too good to be true. But if this is just a straight continuation of LEGO Overwatch (and nothing else), why would it be rebranded as LEGO Gaming?
